Meet Valérie

As a segment leader, I oversee the performance of our segment and the service proposals to our clients and prospects. I guide our colleagues, cross-department, towards the strategy defined on regional, country, or segment levels.

We work with various clients, mainly large corporations with a multinational presence. Our job consists primarily in building relationships and bridges between a client’s needs and Marsh McLennan resources. This requires full understanding of our client’s environment and challenges and jointly identifying the risks confronted with. We achieve this through teamwork, leveraging experience with a certain industry, understanding a corporation’s financial situation, strategy in resources, business proposal, geographic scope, and so on. Gaining insight is the first step towards bringing further solutions. Every part of our business plays its part and needs to be understood, including administrative processes, claims services, risk consulting, and transfer.

At Marsh, our purpose is to protect and promote possibility. How do you do that in your role?

I try to be aware of the non-obvious and be intentionally inquisitive. Combined with creativity and a constructive mindset, this opens any door of possibility for companies and people to explore their ambitions and capabilities and grow.

What excites you about working at Marsh?

The interesting people we meet around the globe and the vast areas and industries we touch. The work we do has a significant and broad impact. Marsh turns endless possibilities into reality.

What do you do to make others feel included?

I represent Marsh within the Belgian Risk Management Association (BELRIM), which champions the importance of inclusion and diversity, as Marsh does. This is guided by the knowledge that inclusion and diversity are a necessity to ensure a full-fledged strategy and future.

I also work with many early-career professionals to help them get acclimated to the industry.

I work to be authentic and aware of the limitations of my single personality. There is no harm in showing vulnerability. I am genuinely interested in other people, their thoughts, and their methodology. Together we can find a better path than anyone can alone. Furthermore, I think it is essential to explain the reasoning behind decisions and opinions.
