Meet Tracy

As an Account Manager, I provide broking services to not-for-profit corporations (predominately Indigenous), small to medium businesses, private clients in all aspects of their insurance requirements. This entails day-to-day services for all clients. I liaise daily with underwriters to ensure the best outcome for clients. Recently I was promoted to Managing Principal.

At Marsh, our purpose is to protect and promote possibility. How do you do that in your role?

I am fortunate to work within a branch where meetings are held regularly for all staff to discuss opportunities and improvement in our day-to-day operations.

I believe promoting possibility is done as a team and not as individuals. My motto is to “Put clients first” and work within a team to contribute to the branch. I mentor and train colleagues who assist me. I pride myself on offering suggestions and always helping others.

What excites you about working at Marsh?

The future. I never look back. Marsh has an awesome staff and culture of learning. I’m very passionate about reconciliation, which is about strengthening relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non-Indigenous peoples, for the benefit of all Australians. Marsh shares this commitment.

I’m a member of Marsh’s Reconciliation Action Plan committee. Our logo, "Caring for Communities," encompasses the spirit and the on-the-ground work Marsh is doing to promote reconciliation. For example, in 2021, I made it a mission to go to every Indigenous community, starting in the Northern Territory, and provide the children enrolled in school something to keep them going back. It's crucial that these students continue their education. They are going to be the future leaders of their Indigenous communities. Even our underwriters and clients got involved and contributed. By the end, we distributed more than 300 back bags and water bottles to Indigenous students in remote communities.

Apart from that, we work to engage other stakeholders to come on board, see how we can align our efforts, and help increase Indigenous employment. After all, so many of us share the same goals: creating harmony, accepting reconciliation, and supporting inclusion and diversity.

What do you do to make others feel included?

I have learned that bringing my "whole self” to work means being vulnerable and allowing help. This was especially the case following the Marsh McLennan and JLT merger. I had to adapt and embrace a new way of working. At first, getting used to accepting help and support was a challenge. However, I have since learned that it is OK to share knowledge and ask for help in a team environment. When I finally got out of my comfort zone and spoke from my heart, colleagues showed me nothing but support, and many doors of opportunities have opened as a result.
