The 2019-2020 Australian summer bushfires were some of the most catastrophic ever experienced in history.
With bushfire insurance claims well in excess of $1b AUD, Marsh had the unique privilege of supporting many organisations recover across our community.
Many of the volunteer firefighters and first responders to the crisis had insurance brokered by Marsh. Marsh applauds and is proud to support such heroism.
Outside of our professional expertise, Marsh colleagues volunteered their time as part of firefighting and emergency services responses — as well as hands on work in our communities.
Our long-term relationships with AFL and Cricket Australia provided Marsh with an important platform to make a greater impact.
As bushfires ravaged across Australia in the early months of 2020, the Marsh Community Series AFL preseason competition delivered 18 AFL games across regional areas in almost every State.
Marsh used our AFL sponsorship platform to make a difference, by donating assets to celebrate and acknowledge the Rural Fire Service and first responders in regional locations, and assisting fundraising activity at games to support the AFL Bushfire Community Relief Fund in its efforts to assist communities repair and rebuild fire-affected local football clubs.
Marsh collaborated with AFL to highlight the challenges faced by fire-affected communities, and donated additional support at the AFL Bushfire Relief Match — ensuring appropriate insurance coverage was in place for the additional games and participating players.
Marsh also supported Cricket Australia to respond to the Bushfires, donating to the Cricket Australia Charity Match Red Cross Bushfire Appeal, and working behind the scenes to ensure implementation of appropriate insurance cover and risk management steps.
Globally, through corporate and colleague donations, Marsh contributed hundreds of thousands of dollars in support of the Red Cross Bushfire appeal to help rebuild communities devastated by fire.
