Marsh is delighted to present its annual risk report for law firms, produced in collaboration with The Lawyer.

Marsh is delighted to present its annual risk report for law firms, produced in collaboration with The Lawyer. This year, we are excited to offer a publication with a global focus, designed to assist our readers in articulating benchmarks and addressing the challenges that lie ahead in an evolving landscape.

The survey covered various subject areas relevant to the legal sector, including prevailing risks for 2024, risks associated with the use of generative AI and its impact on training and hiring, mental health and wellbeing, menopause awareness, support and supervision for senior practitioners, and risks arising from office culture.

Some key findings include:

  • Generative AI Revolution: About 66 % of law firms are leveraging Generative AI to boost efficiency and innovation with accuracy and cost-effectiveness being top priorities.
  • Mental Health Initiatives and Stigma: The report highlights a positive shift towards prioritising mental health within law firms, with many implementing supportive initiatives. The prioritisation of open communication and reducing mental health stigma (72%) reflects a growing recognition of installing a supportive culture at firms.
  • Partner Supervision Vulnerabilities: Nearly a quarter of firms reported having no supervisory measures for senior practitioners at all. A key challenge in supervising senior practitioners unsurprisingly identified resistance to feedback and guidance (33%).
